  • Competitive hourly pay: $45.00 per hour, with compensation for all time worked.

  • A part-time opportunity: Apply your specialized skills through an assignment focused on individual student needs.

  • Meaningful work: Help students develop practical skills for navigating their school and other everyday environments.

  • Collaborative partnerships: Work with families, educators, and related service providers to support consistent instruction and student progress.

Contract details: This is a 1099 independent contractor position. Company-provided employee benefits and retirement plan participation are not included.

How You’ll Make an Impact

You’ll help students develop orientation and travel skills that support access to education and participation in daily activities. You will:

  • Understand each student’s needs. Conduct Orientation and Mobility evaluations, document findings, and provide recommendations based on students’ strengths, travel skills, and educational needs.

  • Develop individualized instruction. Plan and deliver services aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), addressing skills such as spatial awareness, environmental concepts, sensory strategies, and route planning.

  • Teach effective use of mobility tools. Provide instruction in appropriate cane techniques, adaptive mobility devices, and travel-related assistive technology according to assessed needs.

  • Build skills across settings. Help students practice orientation and travel skills in school and other approved environments, including community settings when appropriate to their IEP goals.

  • Monitor progress and refine instruction. Collect student data, maintain accurate service records, and use progress monitoring to guide instructional decisions.

  • Partner with families and school teams. Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings and collaborate with Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments, classroom staff, families, and related service providers to reinforce O&M skills.

What You’ll Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, with specialized preparation in Orientation and Mobility.

  • Current Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification through the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP).

  • Knowledge of O&M assessment, individualized instruction, travel skills, mobility tools, and IEP implementation.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

  • A patient, adaptable approach that respects each student’s abilities, preferences, and individual learning needs.

  • Experience providing O&M services to children or students with visual impairments is preferred.
