Candor is growing — as we place more educational specialists in classrooms across Texas, our back office needs to grow with us. We're looking for a Controller who wants to build the financial rhythm of a small, fast-moving company from the ground up: payroll that runs like clockwork, invoices that go out on time, and a close process leadership can actually count on.

About Candor Consulting and Diagnostics

Candor Consulting and Diagnostics, LLC is a Belton, Texas-based staffing and consulting firm that places educational diagnosticians, school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, bilingual specialists, and special education teachers with public, charter, private, and virtual school districts throughout Texas. Founded in 2019, Candor was built to help districts solve some of the toughest staffing shortages in special education. We're a small, woman-owned business that moves quickly, treats people well, and takes seriously the trust that districts and professionals place in us.

About the Role

One year into this role, you'll have brought real structure to Candor's finance function: payroll runs accurately and on time for both internal staff and contracted field professionals, timekeeping data is reconciled cleanly against district contracts, receivables are current with a disciplined collections rhythm, and month-end close happens on a predictable schedule with financials leadership can trust at a glance. This is a hands-on role at a lean company — you'll own the work directly, not just oversee it.

What You'll Do

  • Own end-to-end payroll processing for internal staff and contracted field professionals, ensuring every pay run is accurate and on time
  • Manage timekeeping systems and reconcile logged hours against school district contracts and client invoices
  • Own accounts receivable — generate and send client invoices, track aging, and drive a proactive collections cadence
  • Run monthly close: reconcile accounts, prepare journal entries, and deliver accurate, leadership-ready financial statements
  • Build and maintain financial controls, policies, and procedures that scale with the company
  • Partner with Operations leadership on budgeting, cash flow visibility, and financial reporting
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for our external tax preparer/CPA firm and any compliance or audit requests

What We're Looking For

Required:
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including direct ownership of payroll and accounts receivable
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Experience running payroll and timekeeping systems in a hands-on, individual-contributor capacity
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks or a comparable accounting/ERP platform, plus strong Excel skills
  • A track record of hitting monthly close deadlines with clean, accurate financials
  • Comfort working independently in a small, lean back office where you own outcomes directly
Preferred:
  • Active CPA license
  • Experience in a staffing, consulting, or professional-services business
  • Experience invoicing and collecting from school district, government, or other institutional clients

Compensation & Benefits

This role pays $80,000–$110,000 in base salary, depending on experience. Full benefits details will be shared during the interview process.
